In times like these leaders should focus on some of the basic principles that make them successful in being a Great leader.

Here are a few ways to establish you as a strong and influential leader:

Set an Example

One of the core characteristics that a leader needs to have is the ability to work hard his self and set an example for his team to follow. If the team is aware of the fact that the leader is willing to put in just as much and not pile them up with all the work then they will work as willingly and treat the company or business as their own. The leader must instill in his team the values of dedication and group effort, which doesn’t separate the leader from it.

Communicate, Communicate and Communicate

A Leader must concentrate on his involvement with the team and the effort he makes to communicate. A successful leader is one who gets his point through and also listens well to his team members and solves their problems. It’s the leader’s responsibility to effectively gauge whether an employee is having a problem or facing some kind of confusion in his work and then resolve the issue. By being able to communicate directly to the team members the leader is able to fill in all loop holes and catch the problems that arise, before they build up into mounds of stress. The leader must make some kind of an information sharing channel where the team members can connect with the leader and give and get feedback so they all stay on the same ground and work efficiently. Also if a team member feels He or she is being heard and thought of as important, they are more willing to put in their effort and time.

Be Clear and Focused

It’s very easy to assume that your team understands the goals and milestones you set for the company and are willing to follow through a hundred percent. However this is rarely the scene and it is usually very important to bring the team together and explain to them the importance and necessity of certain tasks and how they will help the company achieve its goals. The team must be brought to one level of understanding so they can work in an integrated manner and have synchronization in the work they produce. If your team members all don’t aim for the same goal or similar standards, the quality of work with start to fall and there would be loop holes among the team. So the leader must deliver adequate information and set a road for the team to work along.

Boost Confidence

One of the best tools that the leader has is to accelerate performance through appraisal and encouragement. The team members must be appreciated now and then and be encouraged, about the work they produce and the importance they have in the organization. This can also be done by sharing responsibility and giving away the message of having faith in a team member and his ability. This will alone raise a lot of confidence in that person, who will feel he plays a pivotal role in the success of the organization and will be more willing to give his best. The leader must guide as well as assist his team members to aim higher and provide excellence in the work they do, so they can grow and develop, both for personal reasons as well as the benefit of the company.

Be Wise

The leader definitely has the power to motivate his workers and engage them into high performance, but he must also be wise enough to choose team members who are capable to carry out the tasks of their job. The leader needs to keep his eyes open for all team members who are not carrying out their work properly and question them on their falling standards and train them better, to get better results and performance out of them

The leader must also be very careful when selecting a team, he must try to create a team that brings diversity to the table, but should have similar values and bring with them qualities of authentic, honest and hardworking individuals who are strong to face challenges and work hard in getting the goals met.

Self-development

Lastly the leader must work on his self and constantly improve so he is stronger and more capable in handling his team and gearing them to get the work done. The leader must learn new concepts and train his self so he stays updated to the constantly changing world, and meet its challenges. The leader must also develop skills that highlight his personality and create a well-established aura, so his team members are inspired by him and look up to him to learn from. At the same time the leader must also establish habits of being responsible and calm. He must not panic or get stressed that easily or the whole team will feel shaky and collapse since they all follow their leader.

All in all a good leader is an amalgamation of the above qualities and skills that he develops over the time span of interacting with people and  achieving goals together, that establish his working habits and  develops his personality as a leader who is able to bring everyone together, get high quality work produced and meet the company goals. However a leader should never forget that his team is essential to him and it will be very difficult to function without it, so they should be appreciated and acknowledged for all their efforts.
